Brymo backs Igbo presidency, says Nigeria must ‘let go of the past’
Maverick singer Olawale Olofooro, known as Brymo, has called for Nigeria to begin considering an Igbo presidency.
The artiste faced backlash during the 2023 presidential campaign for remarks against an Igbo presidency. He now says Nigerians must move beyond old grievances and embrace reconciliation.
Brymo warned that insecurity in the South-east could undermine the push for an Igbo president. He claimed several groups across Nigeria have weaponised insecurity as a tool for political bargaining.
He spoke during a recent interview with Yanga FM Lagos. Brymo also praised President Bola Tinubu for preventing the South-west security outfit, Amotekun, from becoming a separatist movement.
“I think it is high time for Igbo presidency. It is time for Nigeria to start considering Igbo presidency. Let’s let go of the past and reconcile our differences and unit as a nation,” he said.
“But how will we get there if the South-east is also slowly descending into chaos? Anytime any group in Nigeria wants presidency, they will start militancy. That is what is going on. If you want presidency, start kidnapping and insecurity. One of the reasons I like President Bola Tinubu is because he stopped Amotekun from taking off. He didn’t support it. Imagine if Yorubas have Amotekun active, South-eastern insecurity active, Boko Haram active, and South-south militants active, do we still have a country?” he further queried.
Brymo said national unity was only possible if all regions abandoned violence and militancy. He argued that insecurity must end before any group could credibly demand the presidency.
